How we work

For internationals

English-speaking care support in Amsterdam

Amsterdam has a large international community, and finding care support in English — good, personalised support that actually fits your situation — can be difficult. NNorthHarp works directly with expat families and international residents, in English, with the same careful approach as for Dutch-speaking clients.

Whether you have a child with autism, a young person struggling at school, a family question or a personal need for structure and calm, you are welcome to reach out in English. We will work out together which support could be a practical fit.

PGB and Wlz: briefly explained

The Dutch care system uses terms you may not have encountered before. Two that come up often are PGB and Wlz.

PGB (persoonsgebonden budget) is a personal care budget that lets you arrange your own support rather than using a standard provider. Wlz (Wet langdurige zorg) is the Long-term Care Act, covering people with significant ongoing care needs.

NNorthHarp does not issue assessments or submit applications for either. We can discuss whether our support could fit your care question during a first call.

When support helps

When calm, structure or daily routine are under pressure

Structure and planning

When daily routines, appointments, school, work or the household keep becoming overwhelming, we break it together into manageable, realistic steps.

Sensory triggers and emotions

With sensory overload, anger, stress, worry or exhaustion we look at the signals, at recovery moments and at ways to steer earlier, before everything stacks up.

Home, family and alignment

Sometimes the biggest improvement comes from making expectations, boundaries and roles clearer, between children, parents, the family, school or other parties.

Building independence

Step by step towards more self-direction: making choices, keeping agreements, daring to ask for help and learning to set and communicate boundaries.

How it works

Starting calm, making it concrete and applying it in daily life

1. Clarifying the question

We discuss calmly what is happening, where the pressure is coming from and what the most important question is right now.

2. Breaking goals into steps

The question is translated into clear, realistic goals that fit into daily life as it actually is.

3. Support in daily life

The support connects to home, school, work, family or the living environment, where things actually happen.

4. Evaluating and adjusting

We regularly review together what is working, what has changed and what needs extra attention going forward.

The full approach is explained on how we work.

Professional basis

Support with calm, clarity and clear boundaries

NNorthHarp works from a pedagogical basis with attention to both the individual and their environment. Good support stays practical, careful and clear: what do we agree on, what do we practise and what is realistic in daily life right now?

Clear about PGB and Wlz

NNorthHarp does not issue care assessments (indicaties), does not submit PGB or Wlz applications, does not assist with submitting applications and does not decide on funding or allocation. Those tasks are handled by authorised bodies.
